The gulf coast provides plenty of opportunities for the underwater photographer. Wrecks, natural and artificial reef systems fresh water caves and thousands of dive sites mean you can easily find new perspectives and never before photographed scenes to fill your portfolio.
In years past, underwater photography, and photography in general were dominated by the 35mm format. The venerable Nikonos underwater cameras have dominated the scene for as long as I can remember and I still shoot a Nikonos V quite regularly. Today there are a multitude of choices in underwater cameras. The majority are in digital format and the relative simplicity of these cameras have opened up niche to many who would never have considered underwater photography when the Nikonos was the only choice.
